How to Increase Your Chances of Being Matched to an Open Role

When joining OLLMOO, your profile becomes the key factor determining the opportunities we match you to. The data points you enter when creating or updating your OLLMOO profile determine when your profile is flagged by our talent team. Here are a few points to look out for.
How to Increase Your Chances of Being Matched to an Open Role

Finding a job can be difficult. Sending one cover letter after another and receiving rejections – or silence – can be extremely demotivating. Too often, CVs get filtered out before anyone actually has the chance to truly consider your application and cover letter. To avoid this, we have previously shared tips on how to optimise your CV for an applicant tracking system.

When joining OLLMOO, your profile becomes the key factor determining the opportunities we match you to. Creating your profile once allows you to be considered for all open roles with our employer partners moving forward. Think of your profile as a roadmap, showing the OLLMOO Talent Team which direction you want your career to take.

To make sure you are increasing your chances of being matched to an open role, it is good to understand how our matching system works. In this article, I guide you through our screening process, explain how we match our members to roles, and give you tips to increase your chances of being connected to an opportunity with one of our employer partners. Much like optimising your CV, these tips will help to ensure your profile is being considered as often as possible.

Our Process

When the OLLMOO talent team starts screening for a role, we run many searches through our community database to identify the maximum number of profiles that fit the formal criteria for the role. Once your profile has been flagged by our system thanks to key data points, our team manually reviews your CV, Profile Assessment and Questionnaire to develop a personal understanding of your motivation and experience.

At this stage, we will reach out via email, sharing the detailed job description and inviting you to book a call with the talent team. Make sure to review the job description closely before your call. The call will be an initial, conversational meeting to understand your motivation and experience, answer any questions you might have, and guide you through the next steps.

To ensure our Talent Team finds you when navigating our database, make sure to optimise the following key data points:

Industry and Role Preferences

To begin, it is crucial to effectively select your industry and function of choice. Here, ask yourself where your priorities lie. For example, you could find that you are most passionate about a specific industry, say Energy & Renewables or Fashion, and can envision working in various functions in the field, whether it be finance, data analysis or HR. In this scenario, select your industry of preference and add a preference for all the roles you would consider.

Alternatively, you may find that you have developed a specialised skillset, such as software development, and are eager to work in this role, regardless of the industry. Start by reviewing the industry options and select as many as you would consider for your next step. Make sure to select your set role specialisation for each.

The industry preference will determine the sector and type of companies to which you are matched. The role preference will determine the specific positions for which we consider your profile. Your industry and role preference set the foundation for our searches and determine when we reach out.

CV

Your CV is essential. Without your CV, we are unable to accurately review your profile and match you to a role. Make sure to keep your CV updated regularly and, if possible, upload a PDF version.

Skills

Our Skills are a new addition to our sign-up. OLLMOO greatly advocates for skills-based hiring and our Skills field allows us to put that into practice. Select Skills in up to 14 different categories and detail your technical and functional expertise. Showcase up to 30 Skills on your profile to let the talent team know what your experience encompasses. If you can’t find one of your key skills among the available options, write to info@ollmoo.com to let us know which Skill is missing and we’ll verify and add it to the list.

Skills fields are especially relevant for candidates looking for technical or engineering roles. Indicating the software, frameworks, and programming languages in which you are proficient helps us understand when your tech stack matches one of our openings. Be specific and detailed! The more Skills you add to detail your technical expertise, the more likely it is that we can match your profile to an opportunity with our partners.

Logistics

At the end of the day, logistics often determine which candidates are successful. Being in the right place at the right time can make a world of difference in a global, dynamic, and ever-changing professional landscape.

Indicate your Preferred Location and whether you are open to relocating. This is key, as our placements span the globe. And note, we may approach you with an opportunity in a place you had never previously considered. Also, make sure to update your location if you move to a new country so that we know where you are based.

In addition, adding in your Years of Experience helps us pinpoint when your experience matches a job’s requirements. As you advance in your career, remember to update this field. Additionally, we reference your CV to understand the duration of your work experience.

Salary Expectations can be a deal breaker, for better or for worse. If money is not what is going to make your break your interest in a position, feel free to leave it blank. If you have a number in mind for compensation in your next role, let us know so we can match this from the start. In any case, make sure that you research your realistic salary expectations thoroughly, and consider how a salary might differ depending on your preferred placement location.

There is no one-fit-all, “right” way your profile should look.

Conclusion

Being matched to an open role is always a combination of various factors. There is no one-fit-all, “right” way your profile should look. Rather, make sure to provide accurate, current, and detailed information to ensure our searches find your profile for the right role at the right time.

Pay special attention to the Industry and Role Preferences and Skills fields, and make sure we have your most recent CV. In addition, your Preferred Location, Years of Experience and Salary Expectations will determine whether your profile matches the formal logistical requirements of an opportunity. Take some time to review these data points at regular intervals so our search stays up to date.

Our Assessment and Questionnaire help us develop a more holistic understanding of your skills and goals. However, at the end of the day, nothing beats a personal conversation. Each introduction by OLLMOO is driven by our conversation and who you are as a person. Optimising your profile simply helps us get there.
